How Hart in nood Works

AED data is maintained entirely by the community. No single person decides — together we keep the network accurate.

    What is Hart in nood?

Hart in nood is a crowdsourced platform where citizens register, verify, and maintain data about automated external defibrillators (AEDs) across Belgium. Anyone can find the nearest AED, and signed-in users can contribute.

Finding an AED in an emergency

Open the map and share your location. You'll instantly see the nearest AEDs with distance indicators. Tap a pin for details and navigation instructions. In emergency mode (red button on the landing page) you get the fastest route immediately.

    Adding an AED

When you find an AED that's not on the map, you can add it. Zoom in to street level, place a marker, add a name, photos, and details. Your submission becomes a proposal that the community will verify.

    Community Verification

Every new or edited AED goes through community verification — not a single admin. Users can confirm or reject proposals by voting. Each vote carries a weight based on your reputation level.

    Automatic Consensus

Proposals are resolved automatically based on weighted votes. If the net confirm weight (confirmations minus rejections) reaches the threshold of 3.0, the proposal is approved. If the net rejection weight reaches -3.0, the proposal is rejected.

    Confidence Scores

Each AED has a colour-coded confidence score. This score is calculated from confirmations and reports over the past 90 days. Recent and multiple confirmations raise the score, while reports lower it. New AEDs start with the score derived from the voting result.

    Vote Weights by Level

Your reputation level determines your base vote weight: Bronze = 1.0, Silver = 1.5, Gold = 2.0, Platinum = 3.0.

    Confirming a Location

When you're near an AED (within 30 metres), you can confirm its location. This increases the confidence score. You can re-confirm every 7 days. Each confirmation earns +1 XP (or +5 XP if the AED hasn't been verified for over 180 days).

    Reporting Problems

Can't find an AED at the indicated location, or is the device damaged? Report it via the detail panel. Your report will be reviewed by the community. You can also update data or request a removal.

    Proposal Expiry

If a proposal doesn't receive enough votes within 21 days, it automatically expires. Each pending proposal shows how many days remain.

    XP & Levels

You earn XP for adding or removing AEDs (+20 XP on approval, -10 XP on rejection), edits (+10 XP on approval), location confirmations (+1 XP, or +5 XP if >180 days old), and voting on approved proposals (+1 XP). Levels: Bronze (0+), Silver (50+), Gold (200+), Platinum (500+). Higher levels give your vote more weight.
